Eternity on the road
Corn drops off the stalks. Chinese dragons lurk in the canals nearby. The mist creeps out our houses at night, and congregates by the water. Beer cans are passed around. We miss you. We’re sleeping on the couch of a stranger. Charles is getting old and ugly in the background. Nobody smiles anymore around here. A pile of hands is growing in the living room. Melancholy mice are too tired to run back and forth. Choking on ashtrays floating in the sink. Sharks in the bathtub belly up. The walls peeling yellow, orange, green. Child, take my hand. Welcome to eternity on the road.
