28 days of zombies

The subway is starting to smell like armpits, I noticed this morning. I find this somewhat alarming, seeing as I am blessed with a very keen sense of smell. I hope it does not get too much hotter this summer, or else I am in for a real bad time riding the subway. I like how its all air-conditioned and stuff on it. Very nice. But the sucky thing is that you come in all sweaty from the walk or the station, and then by the time you’re finally not sweaty anymore, you have to get off. Hence all the armpit smelling. It was very mild today though, but it definitely is starting to become a real presence down there.

Did I ever mention how when I finally write and illustrate that book about the little boy’s trip to hell, that there’s going to be a few scenes where he is travelling in the metropolis in hell, and he has to navigate this absurdly complex subway system. And like all the lines and stops are named after demons and mythic underworld areas, and there will be all these crazy symbols and stuff on it. I think that would be totally delightful, since when you first go to a place, the public transportation system can seem overly daunting. I’m well past that now here, but I think it’s a good feeling to capture in that book.

Oh right, so back to the title of this post. Yesterday, Drew and I drove over the border into Queens to this weird old fun movie theatre, which was freezing, and saw the new movie 28 Days Later. Its about like a virus, and zombies, and apocalyptic stuff. And is CRAZILY violent. And really really good. And let’s not forget disturbing. That movie’s a real kick in the pants. I recommend it very much.

I’m not sure if it’s based on it or not, but it reminded me of an old Charlton Heston movie, I think called the Omega Man. Anyway, Charlton Heston is a big fat weirdo, and this movie is about a bazillion times better than that. I like that part in Bowling for Columbine, where Michael Moore shows what kind of a big creepy asshole Heston really is. What a weird guy.

Anyway, yeah. Zombies. Violence. Fantastic. Oh and its filmed in a really really cool way too. I guess its by the guy who made Trainspotting, which I didn’t much care for when I saw it, but then, that was also a long time ago, so who knows.
