Papa Legba

You know that Talking Heads song on “True Stories” called “Papa Legba” Well, in case you don’t know, that’s a great album (and movie) and that section of it is about when John candy goes to this voodoo man to help him find love, and the man does a little prayer to Papa Legba, who came up in some reading I did today. They were saying that he is the traditional god at the cross roads, and its him who blues guitarists were probably selling their souls to. And that he became equated with the devil (oh right, hes from the traditional West African Yoruba religion, I think). But anyway, I also just found out that he is also often identified with St. Peter as his Catholic counterpart, I think mainly cause they are both keepers of the gates, and are both associated with thresholds and keys and stuff (like my tattoo). So that’s pretty cool. I’m gonna read me some more. Whoohoo!

Here’s one more really good resource I found.
