To Oliver:
Yeah, I find that Alan Watts stuff to be really good, but completely all over the map. I think one of the problems in those really long pieces he has is that they are transcribed lectures, and you can get away with jumping all around like that in person while speaking to people, in order to get at what you’re … ah … getting at. Anyway, right. Like he’ll have these paragraphs where I’m like “Oh holy shit! No he didnt!” And then I’ll just get lost for a few paragraphs, and bam! Another goldmine that changes my life for that second.
But yeah, overall I was disappointed with that Value of Psychotic experience article, cause he didn’t really talk about that beyond the first couple paragraphs, and then just veered wildly (I think) off into Zen Buddhism. I mean, sure, that’s his area of expertise I guess, Buddhism, but I wish he had stuck to the matter at hand, because I think it’s an important one. That is, the whole idea of individual reality vs consensual group reality.
It’s something that I have big big plans to come back and write a bunch of shit about soon. It’s gonna be part of my big epic saga of ideas that I remember telling you bits and pieces of here and there, standing outside Catalyst in Baltimore. Since I left, those ideas have really exploded and reformulated themselves into an increasingly cohesive worldview that, I’m wagering, will blow your mind. I’ll get on it over the next week, and will probably post it in my “Investigations” section in parts, so that you get to see all the building blocks of the concept, and then can tinker yourself with how they fit together.
