For some reason last week, Miyamoto Musashi came into my head. He’s this old-school samurai guy who wrote a book of strategy called “A book of five rings” which I read when I was maybe 15 or so, and didn’t understand at all. But it seemed like it was important, so I am going back and looking at it again. Here’s a quote I like from the introduction:
- “Since then I have lived without following any particular Way. Thus with the virtue of strategy I practise many arts and abilities - all things with no teacher. To write this book I did not use the law of Buddha or the teachings of Confucius, neither old war chronicles nor books on martial tactics.”
