After several hours of nervous searching, i finally located the cause and solution to a weird problem i was having where I would get an “svchost.exe” error, and then after that, I would be unable to copy/paste files, use certain programs, or any javascript on sites.

It’s a worm cause by a windows 2000 vulnerability. It’s called the “loveSan” worm, and also referenced as the w32.blaster.worm.

So if you get those symptoms, dont freak out like I did. Just grab a program by McAfee called “Stinger” which will find and delete the problem files for you. Also, download the patch from Microsoft, and then rest easy.

Once youve downloaded those:

- restart your computer
- dont connect to the internet!!!!!
- open your task manager, select processes, find “msblast.exe” and hit “end process”
- run stinger.exe
- run windows patch
- restart

That’s it. Aren’t you happy I saved you all this trouble?
