About my reading last night: mind viruses

Last night I was reading a lot about memes, and how theres this big theme running around out there that religions are viruses that infect your mind. And I’ll tell you what, it pisses me off. The reason it pisses me off, is that these people are onto a cool idea, but they are just misusing it for their own self-satisfaction, instead of using it to figure out how to take control of their lives and their minds, and broaden both. What they aren’t willing to admit, is that science is as much of a religion as Christianity, or any of the others which they are attempting to decry. They are clinging to strongly to the part of their mind supported by, and which gave birth to science in the first place, the rational ego. Or so I think. They are so scared to realize that they are just like all the people they don’t understand and constantly rail against. They are scared to see that they too are infected, and that infection isn’t bad, or negative, its just how we work, how our minds are structured to interact with concepts and reality. And if they spent some time actually looking at religions, instead of just screaming “Virus! Virus!” they might realize that religions offer a lot of alternative knowledge which could help bolster them in their own life, and learn to transcend viral control programs in the mind, and see past them. This is another thing that I want to write a full-fledged article about. (Also, about piggybacking information on existing cultural signals, to pollute them and secretly inject new - or old - knowledge into the cultural region as a whole. Thats what got me into all that mind virus research in the first place last night.)
