Jimson Weed & Datura

So I was looking in my usual spot for drug information, Erowid, which is a pretty decent place to look for general and specific information about all kinds of drugs. And I found out that jimson weed is also called Datura and has been in use as a shamanic psychotropic substance, and a folk medicine forever. But that its easy to take a toxic dosage of it. Anyway, I just thought that article about those kids OD’ing on it was interest, because its written very much in a tone that would suggest these kids are crazy for (1) thinking this plant could get them high (which it can, although, i dont know that high is the right word - trip maybe) and (2) that theyre crazy even for wanting to try this in the first place. The tone condemning them in this article is hardly even subtle too. It seems quite judgemental to me actually.

Oh, and here are a couple more fun facts about datura I found: (1) “Datura has been identified as an antipoison remedy for organophosphate, nerve gas, and pufferfish exposure” and (2) “Native Americans once rubbed Datura on horses they didn’t want to wander off”
