Comic books & Information Architecture
I had the bright idea to see what would come up in google if i searched for “Comic books & Information Architecture” . One of the things I found was this alright little six page pdf comic about tools of the information architect. Sorta neat. More what I have in mind is how information architecture correlates to complex story-systems, like say a comic book universe, with all the characters, their abilities and interrelationships with one another. Or like D&D, which is a pretty complex information architecture system with some stringent rules, but I’ve never heard anybody talk about that sort of thing before. Ultimately, I am thinking still about how to fuse information architecture principles into my ideas about story-systems, mythologies and religions. I’ll keep looking. I think what I’m after is what the sci-fi authors call “world-building”.
The only decent reference I can think of is to Scott McCloud, and his book “Understanding Comics” although that was a lot more about the visual language aspect of comics, than the pure organizational realm that I’m getting at. Maybe it’s time I go home and bust out the old set of Marvel Comics cards, and see what they bring to mind.
