Nailfarer

I used to read a lot of Norse mythology when I was a lad, and I always was into their vision of the endtimes of the gods, Ragnarok. And just now, for whatever reason, something odd popped into my head. At the end of time, there is supposed to be this ship, called Nailfarer or Naglfar, and it is made out of dead men’s finger and toenails, and in it will sail Loki, leading the evil forces of the dead. How gross is that, a ship mad out of nails?

Hehe. I was just looking up Naglfar, and found that its the name of a Swedish heavy metal band. How come so many heavy metal bands draw such influence from Norse mythology and crap? It seems like more than just a coincidence, really. Like they share something archetypally that they are drawing from. Who knows. Either way, its hilarious. How come there isn’t a style of music that draws really heavily from like Greek mythology or something? Hm. Maybe that’s more of a progressive rock thing. I don’t know. Funny.
