Sphinxeses

Today, I learned that there are four kinds of Sphinx: (1) the main Egyptian kind, with the body of a lion and head of a man, (2) the Greek kind, with the body of a lion, boobs and head of a woman, and wings, (3) criosphinx (or kriosphinx) with the head of a ram and body of a lion (I think this is my favorite kind of sphinx now), and (4) the heiracosphinx, with the head of a falcon and body of a lion.

I like this new mythical creature site that I found these on. This site is fantastically put together. And it’s got all these awesome little line drawings. This one for the “mantygre” (which I’ve never heard of) is particularly funny and cool.

This tetramorph would make an excellent tattoo. So would this picture of Bellerophon, pegasus and the chimera. Nice page with pictures of Egyptian gods.
