According to this, Korea was originally spelled “Corea” before the Japanese occupation, and supposedly the Japanese changed the English spelling so that the Korean colony wouldn’t be listed before Japan alphabetically. Some claim it’s true, but the idea is gaining support, and people are talking about changing it back.
