Car Bombs & Apollo Creed

Whoo! Last night I went out with Bret and his friends to “The Irish Pub” on 54th street. I had my first ever (and second and third ever) “Irish Car Bomb” which is half a pint of Guiness with a shot of Bailey’s and Jameson and you drop it in and then chug it before it curdles. And it tastes like chocolate milk. It’s great. I don’t rightly remember how much or what else we drank, but there was certainly a good bit of it, and some Soju and rice wine at the Korean restaurant before then.

All in all, it was rip-roaring good time, complete with an overly teched-out jukebox, and a 40 something woman from Massachusetts named Sidney who attached herself to our group, ostensibly in the hopes of getting “laid” by a young twenty-something buck. That certainly didn’t happen, but Bret gave her quite a hilarious run for her money, egging her on all night.

Then we staggered our way down to the subway in the rain, to much hilarity. There was one point where Bret took a belly flop onto the concrete. I don’t really know why, looking back, but it sure was funny. Also, there was some point where some young black gentlemen accosted Bret with the intention of getting him “what he needed” by way of cocaine and various other substances. Man, looking back, that seems like one superbly long walk from the pub down to my subway. I guess it was like 20 blocks, and it seems like a million and one things happened on that walk alone.

One of the funnest nights of drinking I’ve had in a good while. Oh, I forgot one of the other highlights of the evening: we were at the jukebox, our backs turned to a table of a couple older gents, who were chatting it up. At one point Bret let out quite the stinker, after which he turned and apologized to the fellows. One of them made a remark that the fart was so noxious that it “reset his Palm Pilot” and that’s probably one of the funniest things he could have said, and totally unexpected.

Today I recovered by watching both Rocky and Rocky II, neither of which I had ever seen before. They pretty much ruled, although I liked Rocky II a little better. Drew was right about Eight Mile being a lot like those movies. It’s weird that they were on, cause yesterday, like 3 different people made references to them.

My favorite character is the old mangy trainer that Rocky has. I forget his name.
