The spear of Longinus

For some reason, that phrase, “The spear of Longinus” just popped into my head. I don’t really know why. It is the lance which the Roman centurion, Longinus, used to pierce Jesus’ side when he was on the cross, and made the wound which Thomas later put his hand into. Supposedly the Nazi’s were after it or claimed to have this spear at some point, and it is supposed to have helped all these different armies to win decisive battles throughout European history. This is interesting, about the spear having been around since the beginning of time:

Supposedly, the Spear of Destiny has existed on Earth since the beginning of recorded time, traveling from dynasty to dynasty. Another story holds that it was forged by the Ancient Hebrew Prophet, Phineas. The shaft is now gone, but the spearhead (held together by gold, silver and bronze thread and containing a nail from the crucifix) and its base (complete with embossed gold crosses) now rest in a fancy display case in the Hofsburg Treasure House in Germany.

I’ve also read somewhere about the connection between it and the wounding of the Fisher King. Some say it was by this same spear. Whoa! Holy shit! I just found a crazy intense passage which is supposedly from Hitler himself about when he first beheld the spear.

“I knew with immediacy that this was an important moment in my life….I stood there quietly gazing upon it for several minutes quite oblivious to the scene around me. It seemed to carry some hidden inner meaning which evaded me, a meaning which I felt I inwarldly knew yet could not bring to consciousness…. I felt as though I myself had held it in my hands before in some earlier century of history — that I myself had once claimed it as my talisman of power and held the destiny of the world in my hands. What sort of madness was this that was invading my mind and creating such turmoil in my breast?”.

Fucking sick! Nazi occult stuff is so bizarrely fascinating. I wonder what the hell prompted me to think of the spear in the first place. Weird.
