Did you know?

A little trivia break…

The Catholic Church officially recognizes nine different orders (or choirs) of angels. Arranged in order from least to greatest, they are:

  1. Angels
  2. Archangels
  3. Principalities
  4. Powers
  5. Virtues
  6. Dominions
  7. Thrones
  8. Cherubim
  9. Seraphim

My sister Rachel had never heard about this before. Apparently this isn’t common knowledge. I’m gonna look into this more. I’ve also seen references to their being hierarchies of demons too. I’ll check that out and get back to you. I also had a really cool discussion with her and Paul about Gnostic Christianity, the alternative legend of the Holy Grail (the bloodline of Christ), and the Pagan roots and influences of Christianity. It was great.

UPDATE

I just found a thing that says the orders of demons matches the orders of angels, seeing as they are fallen angels. Makes sense. But I’ve also seen terms like duke and archduke bandied about in reference to demons. I’ll look into it. Oh wait, theres some at the end of the link that follows…

This site has some examples of what fallen angels belong to what order. This one caught my eye (he sounds awesome):

Nilaihah - the “Poet-Angel”; in charge of Occult sciences, delivers prophecies in rhyme, and exercises influence over “wise men who love peace and solitude”; appears to operate in both Heaven and in Hell.

Anyway, angels and demonology get really complicated and contradictory, cause they are pulled from so many sources. I have a really great book about it all though, and am planning on doing some more thorough investigating into all this.
