Alan Watts transcript: filename “alan watts - still the mind.mp3″
Just wanted to make a little transcript of this one 2 minute audio file I downloaded by Alan Watts (since I don’t see any transcript online). Typing from dication is really hard. It’s crazy. You start to fall behind, and then you find yourself memorizing the next few words, phrases and sounds of what the person was saying. Luckily, I could pause it, go back and replay it, but it really was a weird trick to play on my brain. I would like to try and do it more, because it was so odd. Now I have to go back and edit this before I can publish. Hold on…
- A person who thinks all the time has nothing to think about except thoughts. So, he loses touch with reality and lives in a world of illusion. By thoughts I mean specifically chatter in the skull. Perpetual and compulsive repetition of words, of reckoning and calculating. I’m not saying that thinking is bad. Like everything else its useful in moderation. A good servant but a bad master.
And all so called civilized peoples have increasingly become crazy and self destructive because - through excessive thinking - they have lost touch with reality. That’s to say, we confuse signs, words, numbers, symbols, and ideas, with the real world.
Actually, I’m gonna cut it before the end, cause it just gets clipped anyway, so I may as well make it less arbitrary where it is cut.
