Ebay scam

I don’t know if any of you have been following this “new” eBay scam that has been gaining in popularity, where you get an email that purports to be from their technical support department, and it asks you to visit their “Billing Center” to fill out your information over again. Here is the link to their billing center.

It’s fucking brilliant cause it asks you for your social security number, your credit card number AND your ATM PIN #. Fucking genius. And the URL is just an IP address (and not even a secure https:// one): http://211.56.245.66:7301/ (no info comes up when you do an IP lookup). I also love the part where it says “Your information is kept safe and private,” and then has a little blue picture of a lock! Hilarious! I bet millions of people who don’t know any better are falling for this like crazy.

Man, its so obviously fake (to me, a “trained technology professional”), especially since I don’t even have an eBay account at all. But shit, I bet so many people are falling for this crap. It’s only gonna get worse when they start allowing foreign characters in domain names, so that people can use letters from another language to emulate legitimate domain names. I think they just passed something allowing that shit too. Man o man. Identity theft really cracks me up.
