Origin of the symbol Rx

I was looking through a book of symbols that I have earlier, and saw the Rx symbol (that pharmacies use) in the alchemy section under “processes.” It said that the symbol means “to take,” which makes perfect sense. However, I just found some site that is trying to claim that its a stylized version of the Eye of Horus.

Although, to give the woman credit, she does mention that the it may also be an abbreviation for the Latin, recipere, which means “to take.” I mean, it would certainly be cool if it referenced the Eye of Horus, but when you see it listed among all those other alchemical symbols, it’s clearly a reference to the symbol’s use in alchemy.
