Some random guy just called us asking about our “advertising page” at my company. I asked him what he meant by advertising page. Then he said that he wanted to speak to the owner or whoevere was in charge of advertising. I explained that I managed most of the advertising and what was he calling about. He then said that he’d been “messing around on Google” and “looking at some of our stuff,” and was I in charge of advertising? I reiterated that I was. He asked if I was the owner. I explained that I was not. He asked to speak to the owner. I asked him what could I tell the owner that this call was in regard to. He said that he’d like to speak to the owner.

Again, I explained that if I’m going to take up the owner’s time, that I would like to be able to give him a summary of what the call was about. He said that it was “none of my business.” Which is hilarious, seeing as he is calling my place of business, only to tell me what is and isn’t my business. Simply marvelous.

So again he demanded to be put through to the owner. I maintained my composure, despite mounting fury. He simply kept saying “put me through to the owner” as though that were going to convince me. When I again politely asked him what the call was about, he said “I think you don’t understand the English language.” Then I asked him is this was a sales call, or if this was in regard to something else.

Seconds later he hung up. Not wanting to be the one hang up first accidentally, I stayed on the phone for a good ten seconds, punctuating the silence with the occasional, “Hello…? Sir…?” Then hung up myself.

After hanging up at first, I was like, well what if this call was actually about something important. Then my good sense kicked in, and that if this was actually important, he wouldn’t have been scared to tell me what it was. And if he was representing a business interest whom we had dealings with, or for which he was trying to pitch his services to, he would have identified himself as such. So I think I made the right moves in the end.

It’s funny, cause as annoying as it is, I do like getting calls like that, where people are just totally out of whack, cause I don’t know. It’s entertaining and I like to fight them I guess. Hehe. I hope that guy calls back so I can reall tell him off next time.
