I’m hot on the trail of those morsels I mentioned about Santa. Here is one of the articles which talks about the Devil Tarot card and Santa and Christmas and crap.

One section I particularly like:

“What does all this have to do with the Devil, outside of a few fundamentalist preachers’ rants? The Devil card is associated with the sign Capricorn, which as a Cardinal sign represents the Earth/Material energy in its most creative, generative form. Like Saturn, this is the force which is expressed as Pan Pangenator, the All-begetter, the lustful God who cannot be restrained from sowing his seed all over the Earth. In Crowley’s explanation of the card in the Book of Thoth (2), he remarks: ‘The sign of Capricornus is rough, harsh, dark, even blind; the impulse to create takes no account of reason, custom, or foresight. It is divinely unscrupulous, sublimely careless of result.’ The Capricorn energy does what it is driven to do without asking permission; Mars is exalted in this sign and thus there is the oft-noted tendency associated with Capricorns of riding those goat-hooves roughshod over those around them. But this also generates the strong leadership and government abilities produced by this sign — the Capricorn energy is the one that can keep a tight enough grip on the reigns that no matter how chaotic the energy is, it is constantly directed to fuel progress towards an end result.

The energy associated with Capricorn contains a desire for all things that can transcend the idea that one thing has merit over another. This energy wants it ALL…the name Pan means ‘All’. This can be skillfully applied as a way to see the true universal essence behind the superficial differences of things, or unskillfully contribute to the state of ‘PANic’ where everything looks the same and the way out/through is lost.”
