I guess I haven’t been paying that close attention to the latest file-sharing news. I just saw this article on Salon called The enigma of Earth Station 5, which is about a “new” p2p file-sharing system based out of Palestine which claims to be “at war” with the music and movie industries, and is all about promoting the illegal violation of copyright laws. There seems to be a minority who believe that its a front for the RIAA, setting up honeypots to trap file-sharers, but that seems totally stupid. Why would they go through all that trouble when they can just get them off KaZaa. Anyway, this ES5 thing claims to protect your anonymity and hide your IP address and shit. I’m gonna give it a whirl. I’ll report back with my findings.
