Queen of Swords

So, here I was, doing a little online tarot reading to pass my Friday evening (with a 40 of Budweiser in hand, of course), and I came across a card at the center of my reading, which was the Queen of Swords reversed. According to Intuitive Tarot, the inverted Queen of Swords can mean:

In a reversed position the Queen of Swords represents a woman submerged in self-pity and sorrow. Reversed she also signifies an unbalanced emotional woman with no true focus. Ultimately, the Queen of Swords reversed represents a submissive woman unwilling to stand up for what she believes in.

Anyway, the REAL reason that this card really caught my eye is the picture that I made last night (described here). I decided that it’s a picture of a young Lady of the Lake, holding a sword, before she has fully taken to that title - while the waters are still gathering. And in the picture, I imagined her to not be altogether satisfied with how things are going, which could possibly be related to this inversion of the Queen of Swords card.

When shown upright, this other tarot site that I love says that she stands for “honest, astute, forthright, witty, experienced”.

The other interesting thing, if this is a picture of the Lady of the Lake, is that ultimately she should be related to the Queen of Cups, who is the water card. The thing I’m thinking here is that part of what the Lady of the Lake is responsible for is giving the Sword to King Arthur. She does not wield the sword herself, but she is free to grant it, and with it, the sovereignty needed to govern the land and the people. Perhaps that is why the Queen of Cups card appeared upside down, because she is trying to live by the Sword, instead of embracing her true nature as the Queen of Cups. Maybe it’s like this tarot site describes, and that she is assuming the role of the Queen of Swords temporarily in order that she may “make real the story.”

I don’t know that this will make any sense to anybody but me. And that’s fine. Because it helps solve something for me. I just finished my 40 of Bud. I’m not drunk, but I do feel a little buzzed. Mostly I feel like I need to throw up. But I won’t. Not this early.
