Tonight, Catherine and I went to a pretty fun debate at Columbia. It was about like this FCC de-regulation of big media companies. Basically the rules are being loosened so that conglomerates can own more radio stations, tv channels and newspapers. Which, in effect, allows them to edge out competition more effectively. Depending who you ask anyway. There were four different people arguing various angles of the whole issue, and basically I thought everybody made good points.
But I thought the point that was lacking mention of any kind was that people shouldn’t be looking to government or to corporations to decide for them what media they can consume, and what that media can contain. Anyway, more about this later… Simpsons are on.
