Things overheard at the urinal

After Return of the King last night, I had the good fortune to overhear a snippet of a conversation that really fucking struck me as being extremely poignant and amazing to be saying at a movie theatre urinal to a friend at 3:30am in Manhattan. A couple guys were talking about a younger friend, who was 16 or something, and wanted to “divorce his parents” and was having all kinds of trouble in school and a bunch of other shit. They were talking about how all that kid needed was a good old-fashioned ass-whooping to get things back into perspective. One of the gentlemen dropped the following jewel before zipping up and walking off:

You gotta take life for what it is, not for what it is right now.

And I was just like, “Damn, motherfucker’s totally right,” and left thinking that this message had been secretly & intentionally communicated to me personally. Thanks mystery urinal guy.
