I was reading some news article earlier today about a guy who bought some land in Florida or something to make into a Christian nudist park, and how there are worries because there are four known sex-offenders living on or around the park. Then I got to wondering how they knew that, and remembered that there are those sex offender registries nowadays, and you can look up your zip code and stuff, and it will give you all this detailed info, like their name and address, what they were convicted of, a rating of the likelihood of them offending again, as well as a picture and stuff. Depending what state you look up, they also have auxiliary categories to describe things like offenders’ tattoos and other identifying features. Plus things about whether pornography and other things were involved in whatever they were convicted for.

It’s pretty fucking nuts.

I was looking at my old zip code in Baltimore and apparently there are HUNDREDS of offenders living within a few miles of my old neighborhood. But in my current neighborhood in Brooklyn, there were only like five or something. So that’s good.

Just a note, if you look up your state info, its kinda hard to find, cause the information seems to be pretty disorganized. Each state has their own unique system. There seem to be places you can pay or sign up for more organized listings. But I’m not curious enough to do all that.
