Prions, Mad Cow, Alzheimer’s, Kuru
There’s a thing on Wired about prions, which are proteins which cause Mad Cow Disease, and CJD, which is the corresponding disease in humans. The official one anyway. There’s a lot of information out there which links Alzheimer’s disease right into this whole thing. It basically operates the same way, with the same effects on the brains of victims it occurs in. Of course, this is not information which is very popular to talk about in mainstream circles, since it spells certain disaster for the beef industry, since Alzheimer’s is so widespread - if the connection is true, that is.
Anyway, I rounded up a few articles in case you’re interested:
Anyway, I’m not gonna stop eating beef myself. Not right now anyway. Maybe in a few years when I can settle down and actually go to the fucking grocery store for once in my life.
Oh, I also forgot, that there’s a disease which was prevalent among cannibals in New Guinea, called kuru, which works pretty much the same way as the rest of these. Oh, and also a lot of people say that Mad Cow comes from feeding cows high-protein “bone meal” which is basically just ground up sheep, cows and whatever’s handy. Even though cows don’t possess the correct stomach’s to be carnivores.
