The Baltimore Floral Machine
For some reason, almost all the girls that I’m friends with right now in Baltimore work at different florists in and about the city, and have been doing so for years. It’s quite nice, I have to say. Especially since, before this, I have never really given flowers too much consideration. But now I notice them all the time. I look at the arrangements and try to figure out what different types of flowers and filler are. Every chance I get, I ask about the names of flowers. And I’m starting to be able to recognize quite a few. Sometimes I like to threaten that I am going to learn so much about flowers that I will open my own flower shop, and run everybody else out of business. Noone really believes me though, and rightfully so.
Anyway, beyond just recognition, I’m also interested in learning traditional meanings of flowers, as well as herb-lore for shamanic and healing purposes.
I like how monkshood is supposed to mean “Beware, a deadly foe is near.”
