I’ve been thinking a bit since last night about the story of Snow White, and have been collecting references about it. So far, here’s my first one. It’s an annotated version of the original Brothers Grimm version, Snow White and Rose Red. This one’s completely different from the Disney version we’re all familiar with. Also, a page with literary criticism and comparison of different themes and motifs from multiple versions of Snow White. I was thinking about putting together an alternate version of the story myself, wherein the apple isn’t poison, but instead makes her pregnant. Then, the dwarves would become some sort of like weird earthen underworld god/father figures, and she would eventually give birth to the prince, as well as marry him. Sort of a more mythological rendition with a bunch of details swapped around to fuck up the dynamic of the story. We’ll see what I come up with.
