I’ve noticed in the past year or so that there seems to be a ton of monster movies coming out. I am very pleased with this phenomenon. I’ve noticed especially a lot of zombie movies, as well as pleasant re-hashing of other classic hollywood monsters such as werewolves and vampires. I’ve also noticed within this a sub-trend of monster vs. monster movies. This again pleases me to no end. In fact, monster vs. monster-type movies sort of bring a tear to my eye.

But I do have to wonder just why these stories are coming to the forefront right now. Is it because of terrorism and war, and the looming threat - and excitement - of sudden and continued unpredictable and uncontrollable violence? Or is it just because monster movies fucking rule?
