BEWARE! Blogger’s new “post pages” make you FAT!!
So I spent a huge amount of time last night modifying my site to accept the new blogger post pages, which you let you be able to link to one individual post per page, which also would help with search engine traffic.
Anyway, after a couple hours spent getting it to work correctly, I discovered this morning that it had more than doubled the server space my website was using. Admittedly, this is probably my fault for writing so much. See, it creates a new HTML file for every single post that you create. Like me, you might be thinking, well, HTML files are small, because they are only text, right? Well, yeah, but just look at how many posts I have. Each of these turns into at least an 11k file, and moves upwards from there if longer. Imagine you were me and you have like a bazillion posts written over a year or more. Pretty soon, you are looking at an explosive increase in file space used on your server.
Which sucks, cause those individual post pages are cool. But I just can’t use them for the time being and have reverted back to my ordinary archive pages. Until I can figure something else out, anyway.
