Raphael vs. Azazel
I like this little picture of Raphael I found online. It’s precious.
The image of him with a sword, holding the hand of a little kid is kinda cool too.
On a semi-related note, I like these religious portraits from Peru. And these Russian icons are also really really awesome. Two weird icons stand out to me, this “Theotokos of Seven Arrows” and “Theotokos 3 Hands” one. Theotokos means “mother of god,” I think. I found a supposed origin story of the 7 arrows one. Doesn’t really say what it means though. Here’s a bigger thing about Byzantine Theotokos icons. And then some more…
Here’s an icon of Raphael travelling with Tobias. A more feminine Raphael. And a sort of fat Raphael.
Here’s a really cool bunch of little carved images of saints and stuff from New Mexico. They have one of Rafael as well, holding his traditional emblems, the staff and the fish.
Also, this watercolor drawing of Azazel is pretty awesome. By somebody named Matthew Ritchie. I also really like this side scrolling poem thing about Azazel too, by the same artist.
I’ve also heard told that Raphael is supposedly the angel pictured-on/associated-with the Lovers card in the Tarot deck.
