The desires of DNA (and the Gnostics)
I love the title of this article, from the same website as the previous post:
“The DNA Only Wants to Create a Complete Organism”
The whole series of articles is talking about about the “supreme natural intelligence” inherent in the DNA which causes the development of a person.
This one in particular is saying that the only thing that DNA, as an entity, wants is to create the most beautiful, perfect and complete organism that it can. This process of creating a beautiful, perfect and complete organism can either be aided or hindered by environmental factors.
It’s a subtle re-telling of the nature vs. nurture debate, which has been raging forever. Actually, the whole thing reminds me - in a serious & intriguing way - of some Gnostic concepts of pure spirit descending into gross matter.
I just wanted to place that comparison in the back of my mind to cook for a while. I think it’s a good one.
- When the environment prevents a natural talent or part of the personality from developing, a tremendous pressure inside the human being results from that conflict.
The fault does not lie with the Superior Intelligence in the unconscious that is simply trying to develop a mature human being. The fault lies in the environment that is preventing the natural development of that human being.
A comparison might be made between the talent or skill that nature is trying to develop in an individual person and an oak tree that is growing in a living room.
At a certain point the tree will reach the ceiling, but because it is inherent in the tree’s nature to continue to grow, it will have no choice but to either break through the ceiling or start to grow sideways out through the window.
It is equally silly to say that there is something sinister in the unconscious because a beautiful talent or ability is trying to move out of the Greater Personality in the unconscious and become added to the conscious personality.
What is sinister, is an environment that prevents the rightful development of dormant talents and abilities of an individual, or an environment that because it is ignorant of the nature of the psyche, particularly that individual’s psyche, tries to twist that person into becoming something he or she is not … usually by trying to program into that individual a personality that is not that person’s own true personality.
Sort of interesting, especially since in the next article they are talking about how they believe this is somehow related to why people get illnesses, neuroses, even cancer. Because of these suffocating imbalances between what the Great Intelligence of the DNA is trying to express, and what the environment is allowing to be actually expressed.
