Who are the Kings and Queens of the Card Deck
I just found a website that I really like, which has a lot of cool articles on it. It’s by an astrologer named Nancy Fenn.
One article jumped out at me right away. It’s about the card deck, and how she claims that the four kings in the normal card deck are actually based on historical “great kings”. The article is not very informative, other than giving the following matchup:
I’ll have to do more research and figure out what her source is on this. It’s really interesting. I wonder if the queens are also supposed to be certain historical queens.
Well, I found an online encyclopedia backing up the identity of the kings. Actually, here’s a blog entry about it which is much more worthwhile, from a site called obscurorant.
- Each king can also be seen to represent one of the main sources of Western civilization, with King David symbolizing Judaism, Alexander the Great as ancient Greece, Julius Caesar (obviously) representing the Roman Empire, and Charlemagne the Holy Roman Empire.
It also says some things about the Queens and the Jacks, but that stuff’s way more obscure and hard to follow…
And then here’s a site saying that these identities are just an urban legend, with no basis in “fact”. I think that’s a totally boring way of looking at it. Wait - this is crap. First they say it’s not true, then go on to give evidence of it happening historically in France. What the hell? Well, that settles it. It’s true. And it’s not only true, it’s awesome.
