Potter Previews

I saw Harry Potter tonight. It was good, but not better than the second one. I think I liked that one better. Anyway, before the movie, I noticed a sequence of four movie previews which I thought were very interesting. Almost like the sequence of them was telling a story, which evolved throughout.

The first one was for the Spongebob Squarepants movie. The second one was for a movie called “Sleepover“. Third was the Princess Diaries 2, and finally was the Catwoman movie.

It was almost like each movie was designed to target a different stage of psycho-sexual evolution:

  • Spongebob was your base level, aimed at some sort of pre-sexual audience.
  • Sleepover seemed to consist of pubescent girls struggling with burgeoning sexuality.
  • Princess Diaries was all about “choosing a mate”.
  • And then Catwoman is about some stage past that, this more mature dangerous kind of sexuality.

    It just seemed so staged to me, that these four previews would be shown in that particular sequence. Like there’s somebody out there who understands something deep and strange about stories and people and sexuality, and has some kind of weird agenda, which I’m sure includes making a lot of money…
