“Liquid Courage” and “Truth, Lies & Dancing”
Here’s my latest broadside in the on-going “Battle of the Sexes”:
* ONE *
Now, I am a staunch advocate of drunkenness. I think it’s a wonderful thing when done correctly. Even sometimes when done incorrectly.
Something I’ve noticed though… and I’ve only ever experienced or heard of girls doing this. According to my knowledge, no guy has ever said:
“I was drunk; I didn’t know what I was doing.”
Usually this line will get trotted out of the stables and pranced around in the sunlight a day or two after some sort of make-out/hook-up session. It’s been used on me; its been used on plenty of guys I know. And in my experience, the girl (at the time of the event in question) is always completely aware of what she is doing. Sometimes, she might not really even be classifiable as “drunk.”
I could be wrong, but I get the feeling that girls sometimes use this as a sort of “escape hatch” to get away with something which they want to do, but which they are fully aware that they will later regret, for whatever reason.
What I would like to know is (A) Have any girls out there ever used this line fraudulently, as described above? (B) Do guys actually use this line as well?
Also, speaking from personal experience, even when I’m really really really fucking drunk/stoned/whatever, I generally am still the same person, although maybe sloppier and chattier. I don’t run around making wild decisions or doing things I wouldn’t do ordinarily were I not drunk. But maybe I’m just not drinking enough, or of the right substance. Who knows.
* TWO *
You can’t lie while you’re dancing.
I firmly believe that now. I’ve seen and danced with so many people over the past two months. Dancing with somebody’s one of the easiest, best ways to understand a person. Maybe because so much of our normal communication/obfuscation patterns are sloughed off. You’re left almost completely transparent, two bodies moving through space. It’s really quite incredible. I mean, I consider myself a keen judge of character anyway, but when I dance with somebody, it’s like ALL right there in the dancing. Everything. And it’s very beautiful and nice, because it’s a window into people which they usually otherwise keep extremely well-guarded.
