Ray Bradbury takes a real nosedive

Just got clued into this report off Boing Boing, about Ray Bradbury being a huge douchebag over Michael Moore’s adaptation of the title of his book Fahrenheit 451. Incidentally, this is a book which cries out against government censorship of media and independent thought.

First off, as mentioned by the author of the Boing Boing post, titles can’t be copyrighted. Secondly, Bradbury has two major works, the titles of which are “stolen” from other sources. “I sing the body electric” is the name of a poem by Walt Whitman. And “Something wicked this way comes” is a line from MacBeth. If Ray Bradbury is trying to become a sad fucking parody of himself, he’s doing superbly.

Here is the original article where this all came from, over at World Net Daily. This quote from Bradbury himself is amazing:

Bradbury dismissed any chance of the title being changed at this point:

“Who cares? Nobody will see his movie. It is almost dead already. Never mind, nobody cares.”

This really steams my vegetables that Bradbury could be in such a fever over this. Especially since I just read that book of his where he keeps talking about using memories of things which are important to you to fuel your work creatively.

(Originally clued into this whole thing by a post at a blog called brianstorms - theres a very good comment thread there with lots more information and debate on the subject.)
