The Robin Hood - Peter Pan Connection
Sometimes I’m so stupid. I don’t know why this never occurred to me before.
Robin Hood and Peter Pan are totally variations on the same character. I mean, shit, think about it for a second. Their costumes are virtually identical. So much so, that all these online costume shops have a combined Peter Pan/Robin Hood costume (I might add that it’s a totally gay costume).
But yeah, let me outline the other similarities. Both inhabit a sort of fantasy realm in the forest. Never-Neverland & Sherwood Forest. Both were magical and mischievous. Both represent a power outside of ordinary reality, one which upsets authorities/grown-ups, and one which entices people to come out to it.
They both had a band of adventurers who lived with them out in their magic realm. Peter had his Lost Boys, and Robin had his Merry Men. Their arch-nemesis was really similar too. Peter had Captain Hook, who was a pirate. Robin had the Sheriff of Nottingham, who was portrayed as a usurper to the seat of power in that area. A pirate, almost. Both had their female love-interest/counterpart, who existed in the normal world, and who they set about trying to woo into their magical realm. For Peter, this was Wendy, and for Robin, it was Maid Marian.
It’s all right there people. Plain as day. I bet there are more correlations too, but those are just off the top o’ my head.
