The Male Period

You know, I’ve wonder about this in the past, but never bothered to look it up. I’m glad I finally did though. I’m talking about male hormonal cycles, our version of “the period” basically.

This first site I found may actually just be trying to sell nutritional supplements to men, I’m not sure. But they talk about things like “male menopause,” which is also called “andropause” or “viropause”. And they have enlightening paragraphs such as:

Men have reported having as many premenstrual type symptoms as women do (reduced or increased energy, irritability, and other negative moods, black pain, sleeplessness, headaches, confusion, etc.).

I think the thing with men and hormonal cycles, is that they definitely exist, but there’s no reliable outward sign to “track” them, such as perhaps blood gushing out of your… “area”.

Look at what it says here about “five different testosterone cycles” in men:

  • Rhythmic fluctuations three to four time an hour.
  • Daily changes with testosterone higher in the morning and lower in the afternoon.
  • Monthly fluctuations that are rhythmic, but different for each man.
  • Fluctuations of testosterone levels throughout the year with levels higher in October and lower in April.
  • Decreasing levels of testosterone associated with male menopause that occurs as men get older.

You, that’s really crazy about that October being the highest testosterone thing. Because, for me, late September and October, I start to feel like really crazy. Like I get this super-intensely sharp wanderlust. Maybe it’s like some kind of crazy hormonal-genetic drive to go out and “sow my wild oats.” That really seems to ring true for some reason.

I’ve gotta find out more about this. But information on the subject is scant at best.
