Roof of the Mouth

The other day, I had a little mini-revelation about “roofs.” I realized the two main things that I think of as having a “roof,” are (1) a house, and (2) a mouth. You have a roof on your house, and you have the roof of your mouth. By association then, your mouth is a kind of a house. Or, your house is a kind of a mouth. You live inside of a mouth, or you put food inside of your house in order to chew and swallow it. I like doing these sort of little brain-teaser wordplays. They’re super fun.

I made up another one the other day, using the word “marijuana,” and trying to break that down into “mary” & “arjuna”. (And no, I was NOT smoking the green herb while thinking of this - this is just my normal thought processes in operation…) And then I changed it to “marriage of arjuna” and then to “marriage” & “juno”. Like, I don’t really know what I mean by any of that sort of associative wordplay, but it somehow seems important. Kind of relates to that post I was talking about in terms of this idea of Gibberish as a universal language, and a gateway towards hypnagogic imagery.

I had a rather interesting dream last night also. It was one of those dreams where, its not like a scene or an event which is happening. It was like, I saw this kind of like sort of murky document with a lot of colors and stuff and it filled up my whole field of vision. I heard only these two disembodied voices, “entities,” one to the left and one to the right. They were talking about something they called “bible consciousness.” It’s all kind of hazy right now, but there was elements to the conversation that indicated that different figures in the Bible had this sort of super-charged consciousness, different from like modern ordinary consciousness. Apparently, when you possess this sort of mind-state, you can also see like this whole other layer of “deeper, truer” meaning within the Bible stories.

That last thing is sort of influenced by this thing I was looking at last night, Summary of Effects of Awakened Kundalini. One of the observable effects listed under “Cognitive/Spiritual” is “The hidden meaning behind the (Indian) scriptures are revealed.” As a whole, I think that list is super-duper interesting. Here’s another thing about Kundalini Awakening.

Anyway, also implied in this dream was that they were discussing when or if I would be granted or would realize this sort of consciousness they were discussing. I don’t really remember specifics beyond that, but it was pretty interesting overall, I’ll tell you what.

Speaking of like energy, and energy channels and stuff, I’m reminded of this thing that you’re supposed to do in Tai Chi, where the tip of your tongue is supposed to touch the roof of your mouth while you’re doing the forms. Partly because there is a chi energy circuit which is completed by doing that, so that it can flow without interruption through your body. Also, to generate extra saliva. I think also, the book I saw this in (like maybe 8 years ago) said that this saliva is considered to be “dew” descended from the brain. This website I just found calls it “sweet dew,” and says:

Let the tip of the tongue touch the roof of your mouth and swallow the saliva. When it flows into the stomach, it can balance your energy and blood. The sweet dew can cure numerous illnesses.

When you are sitting in Chan and your tongue touches the roof of your mouth, you may produce a lot of saliva, which may be swallowed. This is called sweet dew. Why? Because when you have practiced Chan sitting for a long period of time, the saliva becomes sweet. Although it may not be as sweet and thick as sugar or honey, it still has a faint sweetness. When a person frequently consumes this sweet dew, he will not feel hungry or thirsty even without food or drink. When one reaches that stage where one is not aware of walking, standing, sitting or sleeping, one’s skill merges with every movement and is in samadhi in every instant.

… Sweet dew is also called “one’s own drink”. These three words, when strung together (in Chinese), read as the character “medicine”. This is the medicine for longevity, the medicine of liberation from birth and death and the medicine for escaping from the cycle of rebirth in the six realms of existence. Everyone has this medicine but refuses to take it. Everyone forsakes the root and chases after the tip, searching high and low outside. This medicine is what we originally have in our self-nature.
