Severed Heads & the giant Goliath
Wow, I really left myself some super cryptic notes from my dreams last night. The first one is:
- floating supermarket “very few” Both Possess murder
Yeah, the only thing I can remember at all about what I was trying to say here is this small recollection that “Very Few” was supposed to be the name (or translation of a name) of some kind of entity. Possibly a demon or something. That kind of sticks out in my head. “Both Possess” also may stand in as some kind of name of something. But I think its also supposed to be a descriptor of “very few”. Damn, I wish I remembered what the hell I meant. Like I sort of have this intuitive diagrammatical understanding of how all the pieces of that statement fit together, but putting it all into words doesn’t really seem to want to work.
The other one I wrote down I remember much better. I remember that severed heads was a huge recurring symbol in almost all the dreams that I had last night. The one scene I remember in particular took place in some desert. Sort of in a temple or something. We were hiding behind these pillars, from the giant Goliath, and there were all these severed heads laying on the ground around us. Except they were much larger than normal heads. And they were obviously magically charged, possibly still possessing the intelligence, power and personality of the people they’d been severed from. Anyway, I remember taking these heads and hurling them through the air as strongly as I could at the giant Goliath.
I also remember the end of one other dream where I was in some building buying a bottle of soda from a vending machine. I went to put two dollar bills in the slot, but it wouldn’t work. Because there was a five dollar bill stuck in it. Which I removed and palmed. Tried my dollars again. Didn’t work. Then I found another five dollar bill, and then a ten dollar bill in the coin return. Both of which I casually palmed like it wasn’t there, looked around and walked out slowly. Hoping noone had seen it and would claim the money from me. I walked out into this mechanic’s garage type thing, and my dad was passing through there as well on his way to work. We said hello briefly but didn’t really stop.
Also, the night before, I had another dream involving my departed grandfather. We were all gathered at some family function. And I saw my grandfather seated silently off on a chair to the side. Each time I looked over, he had become younger. Nobody else could see him. Except for my dad towards the end of my dream. I had mentioned to my mother in the dream that he was becoming younger, and she agreed that sometimes they (the dead) will do that, and if I saw it (even though she could not), then it must be true.
Yup. Besides all that, my brother, Peter, who is the stained glass artist has started (at my insistence) his own blog about working as a stained glass artist. Haven’t seen any other online journals about stained glass, so it ought to be something worthwhile. It’s called “light made solid“, and I’m probably gonna change the template so it looks like the rest of the site I built for him.
UPDATE!
I just remembered another dream I had just before waking up. Or at least a scene from it. In this scene, I was standing over a gravestone with another guy. We were looking at this note which had been left us by my godfather. The guy I was with was supposed to be his biological son (he has none). The note read something about how he was his “sun” as in the light of his life, something like that. But upon reading it, his actual son became disgusted and walked off. I didn’t understand why, until I unfolded the note the whole way. It turned out that it had been written on a copy of my birth certificate, and presumably, the note was therefore written to/about me.
There seems to be a pretty strong theme of fatherhood running in a lot of these dreams. From my grandfather, to my actual father to my godfather. Although I don’t have any real strong feelings about how they fit together in the context of these dreams, nor why. Come to think of it, theres something of a negative father-image carried by the giant Goliath in that first dream as well. Hm, I also just found out that there’s a painting of David cradling Goliath’s severed head. I’d never heard before that there was a part of the story that they cut off the giant’s head. Specifically, its in 1 Samuel 17:
- 49. And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.
50. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
51. Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.
