Hollow Earth Theories

Here’s a fairly comprehensive list of links & articles, plus some books and other media about the Hollow Earth theory in all its weird glory. I thought this would be a good supplement to the short story I wrote on the subject.

First of all, I just wanted to point out that there really is an expedition planned to go to the North Pole and from there find the legendary entrance into the Hollow Earth. It’s being lead by Steve Curry’s Expedition Company, out of Provo, Utah. They don’t guarantee that they’ll find the entrance to the Hollow Earth, but they do guarantee that it will cost you almost $20,000. But I mean, hell, if I was rich, I would do this in a split second. But then, if I was rich, I’d do ALL KINDS OF CRAZY SHIT.

Oh, I also forgot to mention, that it seems there is some kind of connection to Mormonism / Latter Day Saints here. That a certain small percentage of Mormons literally believe that there is a Hollow Earth, and that inside of it lies all kinds of Biblical wonders.

  • Journey to the center of the Earth starts in Provo
According to a survey done by LDS author R. Clayton Brough, 4 percent of the LDS population believes in the hollow earth theory and that it is a probable explanation for the location of the lost 10 tribes…

… One of the beliefs is that the inner earth is inhabited by the throne of King David from the Bible, and that the political kingdom of God is located there. He also believes that the lost Garden of Eden is in the hallowed earth, and its inhabitants are friendly, highly civilized and mostly members of the lost 10 tribes. Cluff also said the inner sun, which is located in the inner earth, is the throne of Jehovah and a paradise for the dead.

That’s really just the beginning though. There are several variations on the idea, and they are all more or less equally bizarre. Actually, no that’s not true. Some are totally fucking off the wall. See for yourself:

One of the things I think is the most interesting in all of this, is that nobody tries to look at this from a psychological perspective. Maybe I’ve just read too much Jung and Marie Louise Von Franz, but this seems so similar to different things they talk about with mythology, alchemy and fantasies from the unconscious. Just this whole idea that there is this magical hidden world underneath the surface, where beautiful intelligent beings dwell… it’s such a classic example of how the Self is described in fantastical stories. The field is absolutely ripe for somebody to come in and do a really wonderful depth psychological analysis.
