The Centennial Ring & The Golden Bowl

I made some rather cryptic notes to myself in the middle of the night in my little black & white speckled notebook. Apparently I had a dream involving something which I referred to as “The Centennial Ring” and a “golden bowl.” The golden bowl, I actually remember. But all I remember is that in this one dream, there was this golden bowl, shaped almost like a dogfood dish, that kept floating through whatever room I was in. It would only move in straight lines, straight up and down, and straight side-to-side. In the dream, this seemed completely normal. It was only right after that, where I had another dream which made me realize first that I was dreaming, and second, that the golden bowl was some kind of magical dream item. Unfortunately, that’s all I’ve really got to go on there. And the whole thing about the Centennial Ring is even less easy to nail down.

So I played my usual tricks of looking up these things on Google just for the shit of it.

  1. Turns out “The Golden Bowl” was the name of a movie (based on a novel) in 2000. There is an obvious Holy Grail reference on the movie graphic, and the dream was most definitely a reference to the Holy Grail as well. I remember thinking that in the dream afterwards. Especially in terms of the whole thing with the Grail Procession, where all those people in the legends carry the Grail into the room. Actually, I vaguely recall different knights having visions of the Holy Grail floating before them as well. I’ll have to look into that some more.
  2. Another link about the Procession of the Holy Grail
  3. These patriotic rings are called Centennial Rings and feature eagles on them. For $159 they can be yours. I don’t think this is what it meant in my dream though.
  4. A photo I found with a caption labelled “Centennial Ring” with some people standing under fake ruins and near a statue with weird lights. Something about this photo strikes me as odd and vaguely relevant to my dream.
  5. Apparently there was a version of Wagner’s Ring opera which was performed in the 1970’s and which was called “The Centennial Ring” or “Jahrhundert-Ring” in German. It was supposed to have been really something and caused quite a stir when it came out.
  6. Here’s a thing called, The Magical Pantheon Of Wagner’s Ring, which seems to talk about how Wagner’s Ring cycle was based around the Kabbalah and Masonry.
  7. Nexus Magazine presents Sir Laurence Gardner’s, In the Realm of the Ring Lords (and part 2), which talk about The Holy Grail, The Ring Lords and the Dragon Race. All fun stuff.
  8. As far as I know, Wagner also did an opera version of the Parsifal story, which is one of the Grail Legends.
