A few people have gone out of their way to tell me that I simply must go see this movie with the painfully stupid title, “WHAT THE #$*! DO WE KNOW?!” It’s some kind of metaphysical-quantum-new-age documentary/drama/animation, and its playing at my local Loews Cinemas. But I don’t know what it is, if its the way its advertised or what, but this movie just seems completely trite and aggravating, and I haven’t even seen it yet. Although, I have to say, I also thought the same thing about Waking Life when I first heard about that, and then I ended up liking it a lot. So who knows. But I still have a pretty good idea that I won’t like it, although I would love to be proven wrong.

Then there is this “I Heart Huckabees” movie which I saw an ad for yesterday while at Shaun of the Dead (which ruled endlessly). This Huckabees joint is supposedly about like a pair of “existential detectives” who help people solve existential crises in their life. It looks like it could either be kind of smart and funny or else a totally gigantic awkward flop…

If nothing else, it’s interesting that movies like these two are coming out now at all. It seems to be signifying some kind of change in our culture and how we deal with metaphysical ideas and stories.
