This is an excellently bizarre news story out of Oklahoma. It seems a fellow named Trent Spencer, a 27-year old highschool teacher paid two of his students $100 each to break into his house and try to steal his stereo. The plan was that they would tie of Spencer’s wife, and then try to steal the goods, at which point Spencer would burst in like a hero, stop the hooligans and rescue his wife.
Evidently, the whole thing was set up just so he could look like a big shot in front of the Mrs. It’s both desperately sad and oddly sweet, I think. In any event, it backfired, because his wife unexpectedly broke free too early and called police, who later tracked down the culprits and exposed Spencer’s weird plans for marital bliss.
