Disguising political statements as news content

So there’s this whole drama raging right now about how Sinclair Broadcasting is going to air this anti-John Kerry documentary in all these swing states.

Look, I think this is as crazy as anybody else. But what the hell is with all the surprise and outrage that people are expressing over this? I read someplace the quote that they are “disguising political statements as news content.”

OH MY GOD! PEOPLE HAVE AGENDAS? PEOPLE WITH MONEY AND POWER DO THINGS FOR REASONS? AND THOSE REASONS ARE TO MAINTAIN THEIR MONEY AND POWER? I CAN’T BELIEVE IT! YOU HAVE JUST BLOWN MY MIND! CONSIDER MY MIND OFFICIALLY BLOWN! HOW CAN I GO ON LIVING KNOWING WHAT I KNOW NOW? OH, I KNOW, I’LL BE MAD FOR A COUPLE DAYS, AND THEN FORGET ALL ABOUT IT AND DO NOTHING.

Honest to god, how can anybody be surprised by this? Have they ever even watched tv? Have they ever even watched the news, and been inundated with commercial after commercial disguised as news? You think all these drugs and services and expert doctors are appearing on your news programs because they are newsworthy?

Me, I say let the networks broadcast their bias. Let them stop trying to cover where it is they stand. Bring it all out in the open. Air all their dirty laundry, and let the chips fall where they may. People everywhere can then maybe start taking their first faltering steps towards media literacy, and independent thought… I know, I know. That’s just a pipe dream. But it’s my pipe dream.
