Sluggishly progressing schizophrenia

Also, while “surfing” Wikipedia, I came across mention of a type of mental illness which the Soviet’s made up and was not recognized in the west, Sluggishly progressing schizophrenia. In the west there are apparently four recognized types. This one was alleged to have been applied to people who were political dissidents, so that they could be jailed and treated “for their own benefit” using drugs and electro-shock therapy, among other things. Patients were kept in what were known as psikhushka, a derogatory name for mental hospitals. Apparently, one of the behavioral traits which landed you in these hospitals was a “paranoid” pre-occupation with a struggle for “truth & justice.”

You think this can only happen in a totalitarian country like the USSR? Think again. In the USA, judges have the authority to psychiatrically imprison people without a trial who are acting in a way considered insane. Even more fun than that is that the Secret Service has the authority to do this to you without court approval. Nevermind, of course, the cornucopia of crazy crap the government gets to do to you if they think you hate freedom (ie, are a terrorist).

Ah, good times. Gooood times…
