MTV has this mind-numbing ad campaign which proudly urges you to “Vote for Something!” Indeed. Something. Anything. Just get out there and take part in the process. Who cares if you vote for the right thing or the wrong thing? Why does it matter? Who cares if you do any research, look into any issues, think deeply or follow your heart? Who gives a fuck, as long as you run out into the streets screaming, “I LOVE DEMOCRACY!” As long as you participate and offer a corrupt government your pledge of uncritical loyalty and continued complicity whether Puppet A or Puppet B “wins”. As long as you vote for something, cause we’re just gonna throw your votes out and have the Supreme Court pick anyway. Whoohoo! It’s a great big retard party and everybody’s invited.

Seriously though, if you feel like you need to “make your voice heard” there are a trillion and one more effective ways than voting. But, if you just can’t shake those voting blues though, don’t just run out and “Vote for Something!” Actually get down and study what’s going on. And I’m not talking about watching CNN, listening to NPR or reading that damn Drudge Report - although that’s a start. I’m talking about unhooking yourself from the “You’ve got questions; We’ve got answers” machine for a few minutes, and going out and FINDING what’s real and what’s important, instead of just waiting around for somebody to hand you a pre-packaged serving of What-To-Think brand cereal.
