Intentional Fallacy

I like this literary term “intentional fallacy” which became popular due to a school of thought labelled the New Critics. Intentional fallacy basically states that the only valid way to ascertain the meaning of a text is through the text itself. Even if you have statements available from the author of the text about the intended meaning of that text, they are not to be considered.
