My betrayal of King Arthur

Just before I woke up this morning, I had a dream based loosely around Arthurian Legend. Not really sure why that set of symbols popped up, since I haven’t been looking into it lately or anything. In the dream I was roughly the equivalent of Lancelot, the most trusted knight of King Arthur, but simultaneously I was having an adulterous affair with his wife and everybody knew it. He sort of knew it also, or was growing to suspect it. At one point, I took his wife (who was not Guinevere but one of my ex-girlfriends) away to this castle by the sea so we could have a romantic tryst.

But the whole thing was like a set-up from the start. There was like some kind of trap or weird prophecy or something which I was fulfilling. Even though I knew I was making it happen, I still did it, because that was the force of the events. Anyway, this castle was of one of Arthur’s enemies, and I’d taken her there knowing Arthur would never find us there. I believed at the time the enemy king was away on foreign affairs, but he came home while we were there in bed. I escaped without him seeing me, and fled back to Arthur’s court - which for some reason involved me rapidly jumping up all these series of stairs. So I find Arthur, and the court is abuzz with gossip that I’d taken away “Guinevere” and he is about to confront me angrily when I tell him the lie that she was captured by this enemy king - when what actually happened is that I basically kidnapped and then abandoned her. Arthur sort of knows that I’m lying to him, but would rather accept my explanation (having a deeper need to preserve our friendship) and we ready ourselves to make war upon this enemy king, now captor of “Guinevere.”

Oh, and the “prophecy” which I was fulfilling was basically that I would force Arthur into this war through treachery, and that it would ultimately lead to his undoing. From what I remember, there are a couple Guinevere capture stories. One is with Sir Meleagant. I’ll look around for others.
