Lincoln’s Revolutionary Side
I never knew that Abraham Lincoln made remarks to this effect, but I like it.
- This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it.
Apparently it’s from his first inaugural address. Here’s a copy of the whole thing if you’re interested. Taken in it’s original context, he more focuses on the constitution than on revolution.
